Sunday Debrief: Verstappen claims Victory with two Brits completing the podium at Silverstone

Two Brits on the podium at their home race in Silverstone for the first time since 1999. Verstappen crossed the line to finish first for the 7th time this season, Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton completing the podium to the delight of home fans.

The British fans with something to cheer about as all British drivers started the race in the top 10, with Norris landing himself on the front row in P2. Max Verstappen took his fifth consecutive pole start for Sunday’s race, after quickly snatching the position off Lando Norris in the final seconds of qualifying. Norris’s teammate Oscar Piastri starting behind him in P3, the Australian rookie starting behind his teammate without the full McLaren upgrades.

The bad luck in qualifying continues for Sergio Perez who is once again unable to qualify in the top 10 for the fourth consecutive time this season, starting from P15. Valtteri Bottas started the race from P20 after being disqualified from qualifying for having low fuel in his Alfa Romeo

A exhilarating start from Lando Norris as he put his McLaren ahead of Verstappen going into Turn 1, bringing out a roar from the grandstands the British fans enjoying the move from the young Brit. Behind the front runners George Russell made up a place moving up into P5, his teammate Lewis Hamilton sending his Mercedes too wide, dropping him down into P9.

Norris with the impressive McLaren upgrades led the British Grand prix for 5 laps with 2-time world champion Max Verstappen trailing behind the McLaren. Oscar Piastri doing a good job to stay close to the back of the Bull in P3.

Nico Hulkenberg came into the pits for a new front wing on Lap 8 after making contact with Perez. Shortly after on Lap 18, Esteban Ocon was forced to retire from the race due to hydraulic failures, becoming the first retirement of the race.

Magnussen was the next to retire from the race, bringing out the virtual safety car followed by the safety car on Lap 33, as he parked his Haas on the side of the track with flames come from the back of the Haas. The top 3 taking the chance to make a cheap pit stop under the safety car holding on to their positions as they re-joined the track. The race resuming on Lap 39.

A double retirement for Alpine, as Gasly becomes the third retirement of the race after the Alpine made contact with Stroll in the Aston Martin on Lap 46. The Alpine crawling back to the pits before retiring out of the race, while Stroll was hit with a 5-second time penalty.

As they took the chequered flag, it was Verstappen to take the chequered flag first for the 6th consecutive time. Following the Dutch driver it was two brits to complete the podium, Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton following Verstappen to the chequered flag. George Russel came home in P5 with Alton finishing in P8 for Williams 800th race.
